Structured, earthy, and gets better with every wash.
What it’s made of
Linen is made from the flax plant, one of the oldest cultivated crops in the world. It is stronger than cotton, slightly heavier, and has a distinctive natural texture, with small slubs in the yarn.
What it feels like
Linen feels crisp when new and softens with washing. It has a slight roughness that reads as texture and substance. When you drape a linen saree, it holds its shape rather than flowing freely. It looks considered.
Why linen wrinkles
Flax fibres are stiff and do not spring back, so linen creases easily. That is part of its character, and a few creases are normal. A damp iron brings it back to a clean line.
How it wears
Linen is a structured fabric. It drapes with a certain geometry: angular, naturally pressed-looking, clean at the shoulder and pallu. It is breathable and takes moisture well, so it is comfortable in warm weather. It will wrinkle through a long day, so it suits you if you are happy with a lived-in look.
A note on weight
120–160 GSM. Noticeably heavier than cotton.
How to wash it
- Wash: Machine wash gentle at 30°C. Wash a new saree on its own for the first couple of washes.
- Dry: Hang in the shade.
- Iron: Medium-high heat while the fabric is still damp. Dry ironing dry linen accomplishes very little.
- Store: Fold loosely. Linen does not like being compressed tightly.
