Soft folds of cream silk fabric

Silk Crepe

Smooth, fluid, and the most forgiving silk we carry.

What it’s made of

Silk Crepe is 100% mulberry silk made from tightly twisted yarn. The twist makes the yarn coil back on itself, which gives the cloth a slightly pebbled, springy surface. Twisted yarns absorb light rather than reflecting it, so crepe has a soft matte look instead of a high shine.

Crepe and georgette

Both use highly twisted yarn. Crepe has a tighter weave, so it is heavier and more opaque, with a smoother fall. Georgette has a looser weave and is sheerer and grainier. If you want a silk that moves but is not see-through, crepe is the one.

What it feels like

Smooth to the touch but not slippery. It has a subtle texture from the crepe weave, slightly matte rather than reflective, and it moves with the body rather than against it.

How it wears

Silk crepe drapes beautifully and is more forgiving than most silks. Small errors in pleating show less because the fabric recovers gracefully. It suits both evening occasions and formal daytime events.

How to wash it

  • Wash: Hand wash recommended, in cold water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent. Rinse gently. Test a hidden corner first: dab it with a damp white cloth, and if colour comes off, take it to a trusted dry cleaner.
  • Dry: Lay flat on a clean towel. Reshape while damp.
  • Iron: Reverse side, on the silk setting.
