Light pink sheer fabric in soft folds

Silk Georgette

Sheer silk that moves. For evenings that deserve it.

What it’s made of

Silk Georgette is 100% mulberry silk made from crepe-twist yarn, with S-twist and Z-twist yarns alternating in both the warp and the weft. The result is a sheer, light fabric with a slightly grainy surface. It is lighter and more transparent than silk crepe.

Georgette and chiffon

Chiffon is woven from less tightly twisted yarn, so it is smoother and a little shinier. Georgette is more pebbly and has a drier, grainier hand. Georgette is also a little heavier than chiffon.

What it feels like

Light, slightly sheer, with a surface that catches the light differently as you move. Silk georgette does not feel smooth the way satin does. It floats. It is the silk that makes other silks look heavy.

How it wears

Silk georgette drapes with real fluidity. The pallu moves with air and with the body. Because it is so light and sheer, pleats are soft rather than crisp, which is correct for the fabric. A matching petticoat is a good idea.

How to wash it

  • Wash: Hand wash recommended, in cold water with a mild detergent. Be gentle: georgette is the most delicate fabric we work with. Test a hidden corner first and use a trusted dry cleaner if the colour comes off on a damp white cloth.
  • Dry: Lay flat on a towel and reshape while damp. Do not hang.
  • Iron: Very low heat on the reverse side. Georgette scorches easily, so use a pressing cloth.
